Please tell us a bit about Equifarm Veterinary Clinic and the services you offer?
Equifarm Veterinary Clinic is a new veterinary practice in Namibia, where we focus on providing compassionate care and modern medicine, for every patient, every time. We are a mixed practice, serving 80% equines, 10% production animals and 10% small animals. We have the facilities available to admit an equine patient, who for example need intensive colic treatment. We also offer professional equine dentistry, wellness packages, regenerative joint medicine treatments, comprehensive lameness examinations, equine reproduction services, nutritional advice and 24/7 mobile veterinary services.
Where are you located?
We are located in Out of Nature, 30 km South of Windhoek on the B1 road to Rehoboth, Namibia
Are you open during lockdown?
Yes we are open during lockdown for any type of equine emergency. This includes but is not limited to colic, choke, fever, wounds/lacerations, painful eyes, severe lamenesses, recumbent horses, mares who abort, mares with complications after foaling, reluctance to nurse or colic in foals. We are also available for emergency equine dentistry work, like fractured teeth. As part of disease preventative procedures we are still doing vaccinations to keep horses healthy.
The availability of courier services, laboratory testing of samples and the supply of certain items are some of the challenges that go together with COVID-19.
What led you to getting into animal healthcare work?
The fact that with a veterinary qualification you can make a positive contribution to the welfare of animals, improve the production of farming systems, and also contribute to athletes reaching and competing at their optimum potential.
What are the most rewarding aspects of your work?
The most rewarding parts of veterinary science involve using your knowledge and experience and really making a difference to animals who have disease conditions, which without intervention would possibly have experienced less favourable outcomes.
Do you have any animals of your own at the facility?
The facility is on the same property as our house, so we have a six month old Staffie, Teddy, who plays rugby with our two boys every afternoon and goes on daily adventures down to the river. He is also very inquisitive about all the patients arriving for care at the facility. Kattie is our six year old cat, who pretty much minds his own business and keeps the property and barn clear of mice and rats.
