Robyn Ehlers has had the five-year-old Sandy Lane Codex for just over a year, and seeing them out at the recent KPC League Show in the 90cm was a hint at what is to come from this talented pair. Full of character, this is a horse who can JUMP!
Codex is by the stallion Chianti O.T. Lowlands Z. Codex’s grandsire, Clintissimo Z, was acquired by Zangersheide for an impressive €300k at the auction after the Holsteiner licensing. He then went on to be successful in international young horse classes.
Clintissimo Z is the son of Clinton I. A few of Clinton I’s achievements include winning the Swedish Derby twice, coming fourth in the German Championships, and fourth in the Grand Prix of Aachen. His dam, Waage, produced six offspring who competed to 1.50m with five reaching 1.60m.
Clinton’s full sister, Chica Bay, was the mother of the famous grey stallion Levisto Z. Due to Levisto’s success, Zangersheide cloned him and as a result, Levisto Alpha Z was born. In 2014 the clone’s first offspring were born when he was just five years old.
Ultimately, looking back at the bloodlines of a horse is a valuable exercise, as, as Codex demonstrates, genetics hold power over multiple generations.
