On the 22nd of January at the 2024 Oldenburg Stallion Licensing, a colt by Von und Zu was awarded the champion title. The Oldenburg Licensing usually takes place at the Oldenburg Horse Center in Vechta, but due to renovations this year, the licensing was held at the Sport + See Hotel in Ankum.
Forty-seven colts were pre-selected; of these 47 colts, 39 were presented, and only 22 were accepted. Out of the 22, six made it into the premium ring.
The Champion
The champion colt is the son of the Hanoverian premium stallion Von und Zu and is out of a Dancier x St. Moritz mare, Delailah. This licensing was the first time that Von und Zu’s offspring have been shown. The colt was bred by Monika Rosemeier-Harms, owned by Ursula Berger, and prepared and handled by Johannes Westendarp.
There was much to say about this colt. Breeding director, Bernhard Thoben said, “[He is] still a somewhat youthful stallion, but very uphill in conformation and with a very natural way of moving. On the lunge, he presented himself in a beautiful, incredibly relaxed and supple manner. In freedom, he showed great elasticity from the start and was generous in his movements.”
The colt was then auctioned off and sold for an impressive €720 000 (R15 million) to Antonia Ax:son Johnson of Lovsta Stuteri. The average sale price for the licensed stallions was €149 357, whereas non-licensed stallions averaged €18 333.
Congratulations to all new owners and licensed stallions.
