Udokes is the son of the VDL stallion, Corland. The famous grey stallion passed away at VDL Stud at the age of 28. Throughout his years, he was a formidable competitor. Just a few of his competition highlights include winning the Champion of the Benelux in The Hague, coming 7th in the World Cup of Verona, and achieving a second place in ‘The Sires of the World’ in Lanaken. His success as a big-time competitor wasn’t just down to luck; he is a product of the Holsteiner Line 104A, which goes back to a two-time Hamburg Derby winner, Restina. Like Udokes, many of Corland’s offspring have competed at the top level, such as the well-known full brothers Apardi and Bacardi VDL. Corland has been an influential damsire, too, with many of his daughters being awarded ‘Preferent’ and ‘Prestatie’ status.

Now, onto the man himself, Udokes. Udokes was just a foal when he was imported into South Africa by Kevin and Lesley Eveleigh. Both Lorette and Barry Taylor competed with the talented stallion at the top level. He was just seven years old when he won the WC Champs. The Taylors have bred from this lovely stallion and just like Udokes, these horses are great competitors. His daughter, Farnham Go for Gold, competes at the 1.35m level with Lorette, and her son Farnham For Gold (Callaho’s For Joy), competed in the 1.35m classes at Heartland under Barry.

Anca Roode of Ancaro Warmblood Stud is delighted to have acquired this special stallion. Ancaro’s plan with the lovely Udokes is to use him on their own mares as well as give outside mares the offer of his breeding duties. “Udokes was a miracle, and I couldn’t turn down the offer.”

We look forward to seeing more of Udokes’ offspring joining the Open level in the near future.
