AskHQ: Cleaning brushes

[Q] How do I clean my grooming brushes?

[A] Cleaning grooming brushes is vital, not only for your horse’s health but also for keeping the brushes in good shape for longer.

Firstly, dislodge as much of the dirt and debris as you can by dragging a curry comb (preferably a metal one) over the bristles or rubbing the two grooming tools together vigorously.

Then dunk each brush into a bucket of warm water containing some dishwashing liquid. Swill the brush around in the bucket to make sure it is clean. Then rinse it under running water until no more soap bubbles are seen running off the brush.

After this, soak the brushes in a solution of dilute bleach (dilute the bleach according to the manufacturer’s instructions) for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove the brushes, wash them thoroughly with water and put them into direct sunlight to dry.
