UNDERSTANDING THE N.O.P. SUFFIX

The NOP (Dutch Olympic Horse) suffix denotes that the horse has been taken into the group of horses in the Dutch Olympic Horse Foundation (‘Stichting Nederlands Olympiade Paard’ (N.O.P.).)
The foundation, in partnership with the Dutch Equestrian Federation, provides financial support to the horse’s owner to prevent horses from being sold out of the Dutch Team, with the hopes of securing horses to help achieve gold medals at the Olympic Games.
The project was initiated in the 1980s and carried out through the 1990s. Horses competed with the ‘Olympic’ prefix at the time.
The project ended due to lack of funding but was started again in 2013.
