Uricas van de Kattevennen has become a name synonymous with excellence in showjumping, earning admiration from showjumping enthusiasts worldwide.
This very talented young stallion, born in 2012, was initially trained by Alexander Housen. One of their highlights was in 2019 when the duo qualified for the World Championships for Young Horses in Lanaken by jumping clear every day of the competition. In the final, they achieved a very impressive fifth place.
In 2021, Harrie Smolders took over the reins. Uricas vd Kattevennen has an impressive record with two wins and 11 placings at level 1.60m with the Dutch Olympian, including nine placings at level 1.55m. His notable achievements include first place at the CSI5* – GCT/GCL 2023 in Riesenbeck (GER) and St. Gallen (SUI), as well as second and third place at the CSI5* – GCT/GCL 2023 in Prague (CZE), and a third place at the CSI5* 2022 in Brussels (BEL).
But, this striking stallion is not only celebrated for his athletic prowess but also for his exceptional pedigree.
Pedigree
Bred at the prestigious Kattevennen Stud, Uricas boasts an impressive lineage that reflects generations of careful breeding.
Father Uriko is the descendant of Untouchable from a mother of Lavito. Uriko is active in international showjumping. Several of Uriko’s offspring have already been approved by the Holsteiner association in Germany. Uriko’s bloodline carries a unique combination of international top jumping sires. Uriko boasts an impressive track record under Maximilian Gräfe, winning six jumping classes at the S* level and achieving high placings in jumping classes at the S** level.
Dam, T. Cassina, is a Holstein mare by Cassini I x Carentino. She has produced several international horses, including Uricas. The dam of T. Cassina, Chika’s Way, was herself very successful at the highest international level, and her grand-dam is the well-known Wodka II. There are many famous 1.60m names from the damline including Conway, Carassina, UT Wodka, Clearway, Conway-T, Arturo, Retina V and Classic Way.
Beyond his competitive achievements, Uricas has also made waves as a sire. He has produced some impressive offspring who are starting to make their debuts around the world – with many carrying through his scope and bravery at the fence, as well as a trainable nature. Many have been successful already in the Young Horse and Belgian Championships, with exciting new foals coming through each year. His first sons Ucarias HH Z and Think Twice vd Zwartbleshoeve are approved. In 2024, Uricas produced the Reserve Champion at the Holstein and Oldenburger stallion approval.
