STALLION SUNDAY: POINT BREAK – THE BEST TEN-YEAR-OLD IN THE WORLD

This Sunday, we are focusing on the Swedish Warmblood Point Break. Point Break has recently been crowned the best ten-year-old in the world according to his Elo Rating by Equiratings, and he is eighth on the FEI World Ranking with 1310 points. This means that Ben Maher has ridden the top two rated ten-year-olds since 2010; Explosion W came first with an Elo rating of 804 in 2019, and Point Break followed with 777 in 2024.

2024 saw Point Break and his British rider Ben Maher secure five wins together, including two at the Riyadh GCL Super Cup. Maher took over the stallion’s reins as a six-year-old and has produced him since. The ten-year-old stallion was set to compete at the Paris Olympics but was swapped out for Dallas Vegas Batilly. It is exciting to think we may see Point Break at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

Pedigree

The bay stallion is the son of the Belgian Warmblood Action Breaker, named after the influential Heartbreaker. Action Breaker had a tremendous career; one highlight includes being third at the Aachen Grand Prix. On Action Breaker’s damline we see the French stallion Lys de Darmen, one of the best sires of dams in Belgium. We recently discussed Lys De Darmen in our Carthina Z post. Check it out to learn more.

On Point Break’s damline, we see another influential stallion; this time, Balou du Rouet. Balou du Rouet was a very consistent competitor; he wowed as a youngster, scoring multiple 10s, and went on to be very successful at the international level. He has become known for producing offspring with good temperaments and powerful jumps.

With Point Break having just turned eleven, we’re excited to see not only what he will achieve but also what is to come from his offspring.

Congratulations to Point Break, Ben, and their team on an incredible 2024 season.
