What made you start your business?
Mampro SA is run by director David Tullie and his daughter Matilda Tullie (that’s me), who manages the marketing/social media side. David originates from Scotland and started the company in 2015 after going back home for a few weeks. He noticed that the Ifor Williams Trailer was an incredibly popular, if not the dominant, trailer brand in the United Kingdom. He had a chat to his aunt who is a very knowledgeable horsewomen, along with many other horsey ladies, and found the trailer had an amazing design and was incredibly reliable. The trailers are also particularly convenient, light and practically designed for women who may be trucking solo or with children. David was aware how we (my mum and I) struggled with our horsebox for many years, so the quality and ease really caught his attention. He also believed that the design would really suit South Africa, particularly with its extreme weather conditions and bad roads.
Do you have a horse of your own – if so, please tell us a little bit about them?
I have ridden my whole life (so a good 22 years haha), but stopped riding after starting University and do not own a horse currently – although I get my horsey fix from Mampro SA’s awesome sponsored riders! Both girls have been with us for a couple of years and own some spectacular horses between the two of them. Kyla Brimacombe is our sponsored Johannesburg rider. She has three unbelievably talented show jumpers CRI Quisto 2, Mampro Callaho Floyd and her youngster Mampro Onduno Walfaction. Our Cape Town based rider is Robyn Salter. She also has three awesome showjumpers! Her uber talented Mampro Callaho Fargo Wells, Mampro Lobo and Mampro Infatuation. We would be here all day if I went through each of their rides, as they are all so unique and special, but just trust me when I say that both girls and their horses have incredibly bright futures! So, watch out for our Mampro SA riders in the ring, and the classy horseboxes they travel in.
What products do you sell?
We sell a range of trailers from horseboxes, livestock trailers, and commercial trailers, to car trailers. Mampro SA will have the ideal and tailored trailer for you whatever your needs! In our horsebox range we have the HB and HBX range. Both come in different sizes (the 506 or 511). The 506 is suitable for the lighter and narrower Thoroughbred type, medium-sized horses and ponies, although the internal height can comfortably take a horse standing up to 17.1/2hh. The 511 is for the wider, longer and heavier breeds, but has the same internal height as the 506.
Can people contact you during lockdown to place online orders?
We have registered and been approved as an essential service, so purchasing and delivery can still be done. We have a few horseboxes available and some demo prices, so do contact us for more information!
