GILLES THOMAS AND SALADIN S

Gilles Thomas and the six-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion, Saladin S, took the win in the six-year-old stallion class at Jumping Mechelen.

Who is Saladin S?

Saladin is the son of the fifteen-year-old Belgian sporthorse stallion Ducati van Schuttershof. What makes Ducati’s pedigree interesting is his mother, Narcotique van Schuttershof. Narcotique is the daughter of one of the best broodmares in showjumping, Qerly Chin. Qerly Chin has produced no less than nine 1.50m and higher competitors, including Walnut de Muze, the mother of I’m Special De Muze. Qerly Chin is also the grand dam of several 1.60m competitors, including Querlybet Hero. Ducati competed under Gilles Thomas at the 1.50m level.

Saladin’s mother, the twenty-year-old Holstein mare T-Usambara, has also been a successful broodmare. She has produced three 1.50/1.60m horses, including Evita. T-Usambara combines the blood of Cor de la Bryère through stallion Cash with Cento via the damline; these are both influential stallions.

This breeding combination of Ducatti and T-Usambara was repeated, creating a full sister to Saladin S, who was born in 2019, Tamera S.

This six-year-old class for stallions had twenty-three starters. The first round produced twelve clear rounds and twelve stallions headed to the jump-off. In the jump-off, we saw only five stallions jump a double clear. Gilles Thomas and Saladin ‘S’ just edged the Dutch rider Harrie Smolders and the Escape Z stallion Ecclestone Z into second spot.

Well done to Belgium’s Gilles Thomas, Saladin S and the teams behind them.
