Q: Where do you get tack for Miniature Horses?
A: Miniature Horse tack can be purchased from moth equestrian outlets. Saddles or pads should always be fitted to ensure that they do not go further back than the last rib. This usually requires something in the region of an eight inch saddle. Small dressage girths tend to work well with these small saddles. Miniature Horses have very small mouths, so they usually need bits that are around three-and-a-half inches in size. Miniatures, because of their small mouths, must be checked regularly for bit fit. Bridles for Miniatures are reasonably tricky to source in South Africa, so most of the time a custom one is made for the horse. Boots, harnesses and blankets are commonly also custom-made. Halters and fly masks are stocked in most normal tack shops.
