ASKHQ: METAL CURRY COMBS

Q: Can I use a metal curry comb on my horse?

A: No – a metal curry comb is not designed for use on the horse and is much too harsh on their sensitive skin. A metal curry comb in not forgiving, has no flexibility in it and can inflict serious pain on a horse, particularly over bony prominences. Instead you should only be using a rubber curry comb, or curry mitt, directly on your horse.

Metal curry combs are, however, great for cleaning other brushes to get rid of hair and dirt and for cleaning numnahs to get rid of accumulated hair.
