Spider worries

Q: How can I get spiders to stop spinning webs around the tack boxes that stand next to the stable?

Asked by Savannah Meyer

A Peppermint essential oil is usually a good deterrent. It’s easy to find and it won’t cause any problems if a dog or horse licks it. Spiders don’t like the smell of it and usually avoid any areas where peppermint oil has been applied.

Spiders feed on all sorts of insects, including flies. As horrible as it might look, it’s not a bad idea to leave spiders to nest close to the stables, as they can play a small role in fly control.
