Your horse’s temperature should fall between 37.2 and 38.3 degrees Celsius. To check the temperature stand to the side of your horse’s hindquarter and insert the thermometer into his rectum. Hold it in place until it has a reading, or beeps to indicate that it is finished measuring the temperature. It is advisable to have somebody hold your horses’s head when you do this, as horse’s can react negatively to having their temperature taken, especially the first few times.
NOTE: Get a digital thermometer to keep with your grooming kit. You definitely don’t want to get it mixed up with your thermometer from home! (HQ’s editor MAY have done this before – so can STRONGLY advise making it VERY clear which one is which.)
